Charm Necklace - Fraser Ross

Hey guys, Andre Garcia here. Today I'm going to be teaching you how to create a double layered necklace, for all of you fans of layering your jewellery. Recently I’ve been layering my jewellery a lot, but what I find it's a little difficult to find different necklaces and measure different sizes in order for to have the whole layering look going on. So I decided to create a layered necklace that's already ready to go, so I can just grab it and put it on.

This tutorial is also helpful for those of you that have charms and you want to create a simple gold necklace. The first thing I'm going to teach you is how to create a one charm necklace and then build from there and do the layering and whatnot. I highly recommend if you're looking for charms to shop at Michaels or any other craft stores. They usually sell them in bulk for pretty cheap, but you'd store the charms for other projects or you can make them as gifts for your friends.

So yes let's go ahead and get started. You need the following materials for this tutorial, the first thing you are going to need is some jewellery chain. I bought these at Michaels and they sell different colours of chain, silver, you have like a gold bronze and then gold. So make sure that you grab one of these, you should be able to make a few necklaces with this bead Landing it's six it's 96 inches long in total. So we have those and you also want some charms, Michaels, Joanne's any craft store will sell these like really cute little charms that are ready to go for you.

I ended up choosing for this tutorial to go with these charms and that includes the Laughing Buddha, the evil eye and the hamsa hand. So I’ll show you guys later what those are, so just make sure you pick little charms that you like and then you are going to need some jewellery pliers and the last thing you're going to need is some jewellery jump rings and also your little claws to seal your necklaces and you need one per necklace and you're going to need about two jump rings per necklace as well. And that is about it as far as it supplies this tutorial.

So the first part of the tutorial I'm going to teach you how to create a single gold charm necklace only using one charm of course and I forgot to include that you also need some wire cutters for this tutorial. So I'm going to go ahead and get my wire, sorry my necklace chain ready. It's got off the packaging, so the first thing you want to do is take your necklace chain and measure it around your neck so you can get the measurement correctly of how long you wanted it to be.

I already put this around my neck and I know the size that I want my necklace to be. Now I'm just going to take my wire cutters and I'm going to clip that. So now I have my chain ready to go and this is actually going to be very simple. Most of the charms that are sold at the store already come prepared and ready with a jump ring at the top. So you're basically going to be inserting the chain into that, like so, just like that. It's ready to go and then on one end what you're going to do, is grab one of your jewellery jump rings, open it with your pliers, insert it to one of the ends of your jewellery chain, close it.

So now that you have that one on one side, you are going to put another jump ring on the opposite side as well, but this time around you are going to grab your claw, your jewellery claw and before you close it, you're going to insert it in, then close and that's pretty much about it. For the single charm necklace and I’ll show you it's just regular, open, put it on the hoop and it closes and here we have our little finished product. Now to assemble the double layered necklace, you need your necklace chain, some wire cutters, your pliers, your jump rings, your claw and of course your two different charms.

So what I went ahead and already did, is already pre-cut and measured two of the chains. One measured 16 inches, the other one measured 19 inches and I measured these around my neck. When I was cutting my wire chain, so as you can see, I'm going to need two of those but you want them to be due to different sizes of course. So you have the layering that happens on your neck, depending on which charm you want at the top or at the bottom doesn't really matter.

Take your first charm insert it through the short chain and this is the one that was 16 inches, and now I'm going to take my second charm, my little laughing Buddha that I found. Here insert it through that and now as you can see I have the long one in the front and then the shorter one goes directly underneath my neck and now what I'm going to do is I'm going to double up my chain. When I insert it into my jump ring, so take my jump ring and I'm going to insert the longer one in first then the short one, close that and I'm going to repeat the same thing on the opposite side. Longer chain first, shorter chain, but before I close the second jump ring I want to go ahead and take my little cloth, insert it first then I can close it and your necklace is pretty much assembled.

You take your little claw and close it to the ring and there you have your two layered necklace all ready to wear. I hope you guys enjoy this tutorial, remember customize it, make it in gold, make it in rose gold, whatever you want and again these make really awesome gifts. I'm going to go ahead and make these necklaces available for sale on my Etsy shop, you can find the link right below and I'm selling jewellery, all of this here to collect funds for a cause very dear to my heart.
